National Conference in Winnipeg to Discuss Human Rights and Islamophobia

ي عالم غني بالتنوع والثقافات، أصبحت معالجة القلق المتزايد بشأن كراهية الإسلام أمرًا ضروريًا. ولمعالجة هذه القضية، نظمت جمعية الخدمات الاجتماعية الإسلامية في وينيبيغ بكندا مؤتمراً وطنياً بعنوان “حقوق الإنسان والإسلاموفوبيا”. وهدف المؤتمر إلى التعرف على الأسباب الجذرية لظاهرة الإسلاموفوبيا، ومؤيديها ومروجينها، فضلاً عن المستفيدين منها جغرافياً وسياسياً، وآثارها طويلة المدى على الأجيال في كندا. 

زهير المصري استضاف شاهينة صديقي أحد مؤسسي جمعية الخدمات الاجتماعية الإسلامية في وينيبيغ وقالت: تم تنظيم هذا المؤتمر اليوم للتركيز على حقوق الإنسان وكيف أثرت الاسلاموفوبيا على حقوق المسلمين في العالم . لذلك شعرنا أننا بحاجة إلى جمع الخبراء والباحثين والأساتذة والناشطين معًا لتبادل الأفكار لنوصل رسالة بأن الرهاب من الاسلام  ليس فقط بشأن حادثة كراهية واحدة، بل هي مستمرة. ومع الاسف إنها متأصلة في أنظمتنا، وهي متأصلة في قطاعاتنا، السياسة، الشرطة، الأمن القومي. 

صديقي أضافت ايضاً: الرهاب من الإسلام هو مجرد استمرار للاستعمار وسياساته لذلك جلبنا السكان الأصليين لكندا لهذا المؤتمر، للتعلم من تجربتهم .نحن كمسلمين بحاجة إلى ان يفهم المجتمع في جميع أنحاء كندا انه علينا كمنظمات في جميع أن تنعمل معًا ككيان واحد وبشكل قانوني لنغير هذه الصورة النمطية عن المسلمين. 

 الإسلاموفوبيا، في جوهرها، هي نتيجة لسوء الفهم. وغالبا ما تغذيها الصور النمطية الإعلامية والصور السلبية للمسلمين، مما يؤثر بشكل غير عادل على أكثر من مليار مسلم في جميع أنحاء العالم. ويولد هذا التمييز الخوف والتحيز والتمييز وحتى العنف ضد الأفراد الأبرياء. 

 المصري استضاف ايضاً أميرة الغوابي الممثل الخاص للدولة الكندية لمكافحة الإسلاموفوبيا وقالت: أنا هنا في هذا المؤتمر، لأستمع إلى العديد من الخبراء والأكاديميين والناشطين المجتمعيين الذين يتحدثون عن الطريقة التي يؤثر بها الرهاب من الإسلام على الناس في كل يوم . فمن خلال التجارب التي نعرفها على سبيل المثال، يمكن أن يكون لرهاب الإسلام تأثير مميت. وهو أيضًا يؤثر علينا بطرق أخرى كل يوم في مكان عملنا وفي أماكننا العامة في مدرستنا. لذلك أنشأت الحكومة الفيدرالية هذا المكتب الجديد، ودوري هو تقديم المشورة للحكومة الفيدرالية بشأن كيف يمكننا تحسين السياسات والتشريعات لجعل الحياة أفضل للمسلمين وإزالة الكراهية في مجتمعنا ومعالجة التمييز. 

 التعليم والتعاطف أداتان قويتان في مكافحة الإسلاموفوبيا. ومن خلال مثل هذه المؤتمرات، يمكننا التعرف على الإسلام، وكسر جدران الجهل، وتعزيز التفاهم والتسامح بيننا. 

In a world rich with diversity and cultures, addressing the growing concern of Islamophobia has become essential. To tackle this issue, the Islamic Social Services Association in Winnipeg, Canada, organized a national conference titled “Human Rights and Islamophobia.” 

The conference aimed to identify the root causes of Islamophobia, its proponents and promoters, as well as its geographic and political beneficiaries, and its long-term effects on generations in Canada.Zuhair Almusre was at the conference and did several interviews with Shahina Siddiqui, co-founder of the Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA), emphasizing the significance of human rights and the global impact of Islamophobia.

She stated that today’s conference is aimed at shedding light on human rights and how Islamophobia has affected the rights of Muslims worldwide. “We believe bringing experts, researchers, professors, and activists together is crucial to convey that Islamophobia is not just about isolated incidents but is deeply rooted in our systems, sectors, politics, police, and national security.”Siddiqui added, “Islamophobia is a continuation of colonialism and its policies. That is why we invited the Indigenous people of Canada to this conference to learn from their experiences. As Muslims, we need society across Canada to understand that we, as organizations, must work together legally to change these stereotypes about Muslims.”

Islamophobia, at its core, is a result of misunderstanding. It is often fueled by media stereotypes and negative portrayals of Muslims, unjustly affecting over a billion Muslims worldwide. This discrimination breeds fear, bias, discrimination, and even violence against innocent individuals.

Almusre also talked to Amira Elghawaby, Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia.

She said, “I am here at this conference to listen to numerous experts, academics, and community activists who discuss how Islamophobia affects people every day. Through experiences, we know, for example, that Islamophobia can have deadly consequences. It also affects us in other ways daily, in our workplaces, public spaces, and schools. That is why the federal government has established this new office, and my role is to advise the federal government on how we can improve policies and legislation to make life better for Muslims, eliminate hatred in our society, and address discrimination.“

Education and empathy are powerful tools in combating Islamophobia. Through conferences like these, we can learn about Islam, break down the walls of ignorance, and promote understanding and tolerance among us.
