CMWI Empowering Winnipeg Families and Community by Empowering Women

Play Video

The Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute is a non-profit organization. It was established in 2006 to empower women and provide them with the skills and tools they need to succeed in Canada. Whether they are long-term residents or recent arrivals, CMWI helps them all.

Yasmin Ali is the president of CMWI. Ali stated that a Muslim woman’s goal should be to help build a prosperous, robust, and harmoniously diversified society by empowering women, families, and communities. CMWI promotes community harmony by assisting in integrating newcomers, removing obstacles, and fostering a sense of belonging. CMWI offers culturally sensitive services inclusive to Canadian Muslims and the broader Canadian community. She said, “We strive to promote emotional health, stability, and personal growth through our programs and services. To allow the community to attain self-sufficiency and financial independence to support newcomers to Canada throughout their transitional time.

The program’s services are broader than its name. Over the years, Ali has formed a team of immigrants who went through the same experiences, applying their knowledge and skills to help those who arrive in Canada today.

“Because of the diverse backgrounds of personnel and management, who are also immigrants or refugees, their services are distinct from those of other organizations. They empower women and, by extension, their entire families.

The Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute, CMWI, welcomes immigrant Women with their families to help them with the English language, raise their children in Canada, and provide nutritional and clothing support. CMWI teaches the basics of starting their new life successfully here in Winnipeg.
